Potassium Content of Fruits, Vegetables, and Other Foods

Potassium is a mineral in the body that helps maintain fluid balance, nerve function, and muscle contraction. It is found in many foods, especially milk, fruits, and vegetables. Healthy kidneys keep the right amount of potassium in the blood to keep the heart beating at a steady pace. If you have kidney disease, potassium levels can rise and affect your heartbeat. Be sure to talk with your health professional to determine if you should restrict your intake of foods that contain large amounts of potassium.

Low-potassium foods

The following fruits and vegetables are low in potassium and are good choices if you are on a diet that restricts your daily intake of potassium.
