A liniment is a liquid preparation with a base of oil, alcohol, or a blend of the two for external application. Liniments are often applied with friction to increase blood circulation to an injury or for sore, stiff muscles. Tinctures can also be used with warming or stimulating essential oils, especially wintergreen, camphor, cloves, ginger, cayenne, and cinnamon.
