11 ambulances queue outside hospital

“It’s not a situation of ambulances stacking for hours,” said a hospital spokesperson

A queue of 11 ambulances at Swansea’s Morriston Hospital was due to a sudden peak in demand, say managers.

A new triage unit has opened at the hospital and it is more common to see two ambulances waiting, said Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board.

However, medics had to assess patients in the waiting vehicles due to the sudden increase in arrivals on Tuesday.

“It’s not often we get so many ambulances in one go,” said a health board spokeswoman.

“It’s not a situation of ambulances stacking for hours.”
