With all eyes on you and photographs you’ll cherish forever, there’s a fair amount of pressure to look good on your wedding day.

As every bride knows, as soon as your man pops the question, thoughts turn to that dreaded pre-wedding diet to ensure you look amazing in your dream dress.

But what about the groom? As William Ladbury, 27, from Birmingham, discovered, there’s plenty of pressure for men to look good, too.

William Ladbury, 27, discovered there’s pressure for men to get in shape for their wedding, too. William weighed 96kg and had 21 per cent body fat, left. He signed up to a 30-day challenge to shed the weight and tone up and lost 10kg, cut his body fat in half and lost 4.5 inches off his waist, right, in the process

Will, who works as a Technical Officer for a housing organisation, had planned his dream wedding in Santorini and had his dream bride but he wanted the dream body to go with it.

Will wanted to look great in his custom fitted suit, as well as look good around the pool and feel confident with his shirt off.

At 96kg and 21 per cent body fat, Will wasn’t exactly ‘fat’, but he admits that he wasn’t in great shape either. He was unfit and self-conscious in the changing rooms and whilst he had always attended the gym, he lacked the motivation and direction to make a real difference.

Speaking about his motivation, he said: ‘I was getting married in a hot foreign country and didn’t only want to feel confident wearing a nice suit and having photos taken but also around the pool and by the beach all holiday. I wanted to do this transformation for myself.

‘I was self conscious wearing tight clothes. I have always attended a gym, usually in preparation for a summer holiday, but never achieved the results I always wanted. I seem to lack motivation and fall short of my targets. I was also anxious starting with a personal trainer. I had never had one-on-one training before, so was worried that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the strict regime.’

He said that the 10kg loss has made him feel so much healthier and fitter. He said: ‘It was a great feeling to have 4.5 inches taken off the waist of my wedding suit trousers. I have always looked bulky in suits due to being top heavy, but as I have now slimmed down, the suit looked perfect’

William signed up to the Maxi Nutrition 30 Day Ibiza Challenge – an intense 30 day programme designed to blitz fat and pack on muscle.

Will work with personal trainer Dan Lambert, a body transformation expert who’s worked with Premiership footballers and Championship rugby players.

With the help of Dan, Will lost 10kg, cut his body fat in half and lost 4.5 inches off his waist, all in 30 days.

Speaking after the wedding, he said: ‘I have so much more confidence now. Leading up to the wedding abroad I felt comfortable taking my top off around other people and in gym changing rooms.

WILLIAM’S WEEKLY TRAINING PLAN

Tuesday: Chest, back and abs

Wednesday: Rest

Thursday: Hamstrings and calves

Friday: Shoulders, back and abs

Saturday: Biceps and triceps

Sunday: Rest

‘The 10kg loss has also made me feel so much healthier and fitter. At the start of the process I struggled to complete eight sprints of 30 seconds.

‘Now I can comfortably reach 20 at a higher speed. This increased fitness has also made me consider returning to play amateur rugby every weekend.

‘It was a great feeling to have 4.5 inches taken off the waist of my wedding suit trousers. I have always looked bulky in suits due to being top heavy, but as I have now slimmed down, the suit looked perfect.’

And, of course, his new wife, Heather Ladbury, was thrilled with the result. ‘My new wife was happy with the way I looked but now the transformation has taken place she is really pleased with the results,’ he said.

‘She made constant praises and gave me plenty of encouragement throughout the whole process.

‘Without her, this wouldn’t have been possible. She is also happy with my new toned more muscular body.’
