From avocado to banana, natural hair mask devotees have always been quick to heap praise on purse-friendly, at-home solutions for dry, damaged hair.

But one beauty blogger, Ana Chavarria, from California, swears that a very precise mix of beer, a raw egg and safflower oil is the secret to ‘shinier, softer hair’.

According to Ms Chavarria, who posted a clip on Instagram, all you need to do is mix half a cup of beer, one tablespoon of safflower oil and one raw egg together, before applying the mixture to your hair and leaving it on for ‘around 30 minutes’.

Cure all: But blogger, Ana Chavarria, from California, swears that a very precise mix of beer, a raw egg and safflower oil is the secret to ‘shinier, softer hair’

Process: The blogger shared this via a video on her Instagram page, and said you should leave the mixture in your hair for 30 minutes

‘Wash off as usual (shampoo and conditioner), Ms Chavarria wrote, next to her popular Instagram video.

‘I do recommend doing it during the weekend so you let it air dry after you take your shower and also you don’t go out smelling like rotten eggs [sic],’ she said.

The blogger also advocates opening the beer you intend to use 24 hours prior to the treatment, and in her video, she mixes up all of the ingredients in a plastic flask.

Long-standing favourite: Ms Chavarria told Daily Mail Australia that her mother got her into natural hair masks, and added that she has been using this one since she was just 14

‘It was actually my mum who got me into natural hair masks,’ Ms Chavarria told Daily Mail Australia, when explaining her inspiration for the beer, egg and oil treatment.

‘She would always tell me there was no need to spend lots of money on salons, because we could get the same results at home naturally.

‘I have done this particular treatment since I was about 14 years old, and it has helped me to have nice, healthy hair – as good as you would get from the salons, if not better!

‘It doesn’t have any chemicals, and obviously it has its cons such as you might smell like rotten eggs during the first day, but it helps a lot, so it’s worth it.’

Cheaper option: She said that this one is both cheaper, chemical-free and is as good – if not better – than any treatment she has ever had at a hair salon

Going viral: The clip has resonated with the blogger’s huge fan base, and it has already been viewed 149,000 times on her Instagram page

The video has resonated quickly with the blogger’s huge fan base on Instagram, too, where, at present, it has been viewed 149,000 times.

‘I think I should try this,’ one enthusiastic poster commented.

However, a less keen person added: ‘Why would you waste good beer?’.
