Fatal Attraction actress Anne Archer under the microscope

‘I love Pilates and also do weight exercises at least twice a week,’ says actress Anne Archer

Fatal Attraction actress Anne Archer, 68, answers our health quiz.

CAN YOU RUN UP THE STAIRS?

Easily. I live in LA, right next to the Santa Monica Mountains, which have stairs built into them.

When my husband, Terry Jastrow, or my Pilates teacher and I go for hikes, we do the stairs. I love Pilates and also do weight exercises at least twice a week.

GET YOUR FIVE A DAY?

We are very blessed to live in Southern California. There is a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables around — we have great salads at lunch.

POP ANY PILLS?

When working, I take a vitamin B complex for energy and vitamins C and E for the immune system every morning.

I take a magnesium pill at night to help me sleep and vitamin D every day because it is supposed to prevent cancer.

EVER DIETED?

I have dieted my entire life. I’m 5ft 6in and weigh just over 9 st, but I always feel like I’m 4lb too heavy.

ANY VICES?

I keep a dark chocolate bar in the refrigerator and tell myself I’ll have one piece a day and then I’ll suddenly go through the whole bar.

I also used to be a social smoker, but stopped buying them years ago. Still, if I find myself at a party with a glass of champagne with people who are smoking, I’ll say: ‘Oh, I’ll have one!’

EVER HAVE PLASTIC SURGERY?

I did have a facelift a long time ago, but I’m convinced now it’s important to age naturally.

My mother was beautiful right into old age and she never had anything done — her face was very real-looking. Plastic surgery doesn’t tempt me at all now — I’m so horrified at what I see all around me in Hollywood.

ANY FAMILY AILMENTS?

My mother only recently passed away at the age of 97. My father lived until 70.

COPE WELL WITH PAIN?

After the birth of my two sons, I felt I could survive anything. My youngest son Jeffrey was about eight months old when I was filming Fatal Attraction and I often took him on set with me.

HEALTH BOOK THAT CHANGED YOUR LIFE?

The Zone Diet — it’s about sticking to protein and natural carbohydrates, such as fruits and vegetables, and eating three meals a day.

I now have a fast metabolism because of that diet; in the past, it had slowed down from trying not to eat.

EVER BEEN DEPRESSED?

No. I think getting enough sleep, having a healthy diet and getting outside, walking and looking at the trees all help if your spirits are low.

WHAT KEEPS YOU AWAKE AT NIGHT?

I’m a light sleeper, so I sleep with a noise machine, which can produce sounds including white noise, rain or waves. Now I can sleep through all the little noises that used to wake me.

LIKE TO LIVE FOR EVER?

No. If you have no quality of life left, then it’s time to say: ‘It’s been great — but I’m done!’

Anne stars in The Trial Of Jane Fonda at Park Theatre, London, from July 13 to August 20 (parktheatre.co.uk, 020 7870 6876).
