Does the idea of using a washable sanitary pad tickle your fancy?
One man is hoping to convert women around the world from using supermarket sanitary pads and tampons to the Hannahpad, a reusable organic sanitary pad.
The Hannahpad is a cost-effective, washable pad made from 100 per cent organic cotton that can be used for two to three years according to Marcus Steve and his wife Jenny who introduced the product to the Australian market in 2014.

Mr Steve, director of Hannahpad Australia and New Zealand, told Daily Mail Australia that he and Jenny decided to live a chemical free life after working as cabin managers for Etihad for 10 years.
Jenny, who had issues with her menstrual cycle, tried the South Korean product and felt a reduction in period pain, however Mr Steve was not convinced of the product.
‘I was in shock when she told me it was washable and I questioned the hygiene of it,’ he said.

After doing his own research on supermarket pads and tampons, he found that women were being exposed to dioxins, herbicides and insecticides, and as a result are suffering from infections and skin rashes.
The couple brought the Hannahpad back Melbourne and set up their online business.
The product has a leak proof coating and super absorbent cotton that prevents any surprise spillages and comes in different sizes from panty liners ($14.99) to super ultra overnight pads ($35.00).
Alternative: They claim that it is a healthier option compared to supermarket pads

Since then they have sold thousands of pads to young women, pregnant and post-partum mothers and even older women with incontinence issues and received positive feedback from it.
‘The only challenge some women will bring up is that you have to wash it. If you can get your mindset around the cleaning part of that all you need,’ he said.
‘We suggest that women wear it like their usually cycle and change it after however many hours wearing it,’ he added.
‘When you take it off you don’t touch any of the used part. Everything is very neatly contained in the inside and put into a little plastic bag or carry bag to take home and wash,’ he said.
Soak overnight: Mr Steve said that while the product isn’t mainstream he hopes that people, especially men will change their mindset about it
Sustainable: Jenny and Marcus first came across the product while travelling in South Korea
To clean the pad Mr Steve said that to rinse it under cold water with their effective micro-organism soap and soak it over night and washing it in the washing machine.
‘It’s not a mainstream product. We need to be open about it and the worst contributors are men,’ he said
‘[Men] need to change their mindset about periods because most men have a woman in their life like their mothers, sisters, wife or girlfriend.’ he added.
Aside from the health benefits Mr Steve also said the product is environmentally sustainable, biodegradable and vegan friendly.
