If you haven’t already heard, Bethany Townsend, a 23-year-old makeup artist and aspiring model who struggles with Crohn’s disease (a type of inflammatory bowel disease), recently posted a stunning bikini shot online with her colostomy bags fully exposed. And in response, she got a ton of support from the social media world (including the photo above).
Since the initial Facebook post, tons of other people have begun sharing similar photos on Instagram and Twitter, tagged with #GetYourBellyOut. The goal of the #GetYourBellyOut campaign is to raise awareness about inflammatory bowl disease (IBD) and what it’s really like to live with IBD.
Bethany admits, “it’s hard for anybody with a colostomy bag to finally get their body out and be like, ‘This is me, I’m a bit different from everybody else.’†Check out some of our favorite #GetYourBellyOut photos Instagrammers posted after being inspired by Bethany’s snapshot:Â
