Potentially the most adorable story we shared in 2014: Oklahoma sisters Rubye Cox, Ruth Branum, and Rose Shloss, then 110, 104, and 101, respectively, were reunited after not seeing each other for 10 years, People reported. Check out their secrets to living a long, fulfilling life.

You were equally as blown away as we were by Barbie Thomas, a 37-year-old mother of two who’s also a competitive bodybuilder without arms. She told the Daily Mail: “I’d say to anyone, you can do whatever you put your mind to. The only limitations are the ones you put on yourself.”

 

3. A Mother-Daughter Triumph
Remember this dynamic duo? Cheryl Shaw, 50, and her daughter Tess, 17, took the GiveIt100 challenge—dedicating 100 days to changing their lives in some manner—and vowed to lose weight. By the end of it, they had lost a combined total of 74 pounds. 

 

2. Miley Cyrus’ VMA Guest
When Miley Cyrus’s song “Wrecking Ball” won the Moonman for Video of the Year, she let a man named Jesse Helt—a formerly homeless individual—receive the award and give a speech, urging everyone to help the one million-plus homeless youth in the U.S.  

Editor’s Note: News broke following our coverage that, according to the AP, Jesse Helt had been arrested in Oregon in 2010 and violated his probation the next year by failing to meet his probation officer, violating curfew, not completing his community service, and moving to Los Angeles. Since the VMAs, he has returned to Oregon to surrender and been sentenced to six months of jail time.

1. Katy Perry on Single Motherhood
This past summer, Katy Perry sparked a major conversation when she spoke on the subject of motherhood. She told Rolling Stone that she doesn’t need to have a guy in her life to raise a child and that she’ll start a family (with or without a partner) on her own time.
