Tying your running kicks isn’t as simple as over, under, and through the loop—you want to create a long-lasting knot that will stay put when you’re pounding the pavement. After all, you have more important things to focus on—like setting a new PR—than worrying about your laces coming undone.

So to make your run so much easier, Jeff Dengate, shoes and gear editor at Runner’s World, shared his favorite knot style for running: the reef knot. With this technique, the knot actually becomes tighter as you clock more distance. Learn how to do it in the video below:
