Video shows penis implant get erect INSTANTLY when dropped in a warm bath

  • Viagra and Cialis do not work for thousands of men with erectile dysfunction
  • The alternatives can be difficult to implant and difficult to use
  • Urologists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison have devised a potentially groundbreaking implant that could become erect on demand
  • They have found it can get erect when heated with hot water
  • The team is working on a battery-powered device instead, which would give the patients more autonomy

We’re led to believe a small blue pill can cure erectile dysfunction.

But for thousands of cancer survivors or wounded soldiers, it doesn’t always work.

So far alternatives have been rudimentary – an inflatable pump that is difficult to implant and awkward to use, or a malleable device that leaves the patient with a permanent erection.

Now, urologists at the University of Wisconsin-Madison have devised a potentially groundbreaking implant that could become erect on demand – simply by heating it up.

The device is a metal coil, made of nickel titanium alloy, which can protract and extend in size.

In practice, it would be tailored to the actual or desired size of each patient.

The surgeon would make a small incision at the base of the penis to insert the metal coil.

The device remains flaccid at body temperature.

When heated it becomes erect and rigid.

Dr Brian Le and his team are still experimenting to find the best heat-inducing method.

Their research has shown the coil can become rigid if heated with hot water, for example in a bath.

But this has obvious downsides – namely that the patient would get an erection every time they wash.

The most promising method, which will be published in their next research paper in 2017, involves using a key-fob style control that creates an electric field.

Working in a very similar way to an MRI, this device could create an electric field that conducts heat without heating the tissue as well.

A cold wet flannel can be placed on the groin to make it flaccid again.

Dr Le told Daily Mail Online his research is essential for the thousands of men who may survive life-threatening injury or illness, only to be left with a poor quality of life.

‘It plays an important role in quality of life medicine and survivorship,’ he told Daily Mail Online.

‘There’s a lot of treatment for pain and other side effects, but this is different.

‘You may have cancer survivors or soldiers with an IED injury to the pelvis. Viagra may not work for them.

‘So, yes they are surviving their cancers or injuries but what’s their quality of life after that?’

He adds: ‘This is not the enhancement surgery you hear about, this is about quality of life.’
