This is the incredible moment a six-day-old baby undergoes life-saving open heart surgery.
The boy was born at home in West Drayton, London, and was immediately taken to hospital for medical checks.
Hospital staff deemed him to be healthy until a more experienced nurse noticed a blue colouring in his feet and fingers.

Nurses noticed the six-day-old boy, from London, had a blue colouring in his feet. Tests revealed he had total anomalous pulmonary venous drainage – a potentially fatal heart defect
Further tests revealed he had a potentially fatal heart defect which meant blood between his heart and lungs wasn’t flowing properly.
He was transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital for the open heart surgery.

High blood pressure is linked to DEMENTIA: Common condition…
His mother, who do not want the child to be named, told Get West London: ‘I’m feeling really really lucky. I can’t imagine how our lives would have turned out if we hadn’t spotted that.
‘Every time I tell people the story they say it it gives them chills. At the time it was very scary. We were quite overwhelmed.
In open heart surgery at just six days old, specialists managed to reverse the condition and helped his heart direct blood around his body in the correct direction
‘She probably saved us a lot of heartache. I don’t know if anyone else would have spotted that.
‘He looked so healthy and so well. She probably saved his life.’
WHAT IS TOTAL ANOMALOUS PULMONARY VENOUS DRAINAGE?
The cause of total anomalous pulmonary venous drainage is unknown.
In normal circulation, blood is sent from the right ventricle to pick up oxygen in the lungs.
It then returns through the pulmonary veins to the left side of the heart, which sends blood out through the aorta and around the body.
But in cases of the defect, oxygen-rich blood returns from the lungs to the right atrium instead of the left side of heart.
In other words, blood simply circles to and from the lungs and never gets out to the body.
For the infant to live, the defect must be surgically repaired in early infancy.
Born in May this year, he was immediately taken to Hillingdon Hospital where medical staff believed he was healthy.
But senior midwife Stella Milanian noticed the unusual blue marks which warranted testing.
He was taken to Great Ormond Street Hospital for open heart surgery when he was just six days old.
Tests revealed he had total anomalous pulmonary venous drainage.
The pulmonary veins, which drain blood from the lungs, should be connected to the left atrium of the heart – but in this case, they were connected to the right atrium.
Specialists managed to reverse the condition and help his heart direct blood around his body in the correct direction.
And now four months old, he is enjoying a healthy life.
Shane DeGaris, chief executive of Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: ‘Our staff are incredibly dedicated to proving the best possible care and Stella is a shining example to us all.
‘Without her expert knowledge and careful attention there may have been a very different outcome for this little boy.
‘I’m extremely proud of her.’
