Patti LaBelle is on a mission to help combat the fight against HIV\/AIDS.<\/p>\n
On Nov. 30, the legendary singer will join Common, JoJo and others in Los Angeles as a part of AIDS Healthcare Foundation<\/a>\u2019s (AHF) \u201cKeep the Promise<\/a>\u201d concert. Hosted by actress Rosie Perez, the special event is part of the non-profit organization\u2019s series of global initiatives <\/a>to take place in commemoration of World AIDS Day<\/a> (on Dec. 1).<\/p>\n
The event will also honor legendary activist and entertainer Harry Belafonte with AHF\u2019s Lifetime Achievement Award for his\u00a0history of humanitarian work<\/a>.<\/p>\n
Despite the advancements for HIV\/AIDS <\/a>research and treatment, LaBelle ? who\u2019s a known advocate of raising awareness for HIV\/AIDS<\/a>\u00a0? wants to encourage everyone not to lose sight of ridding the immunodeficiency virus from the world\u2019s population.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s sort of like the election when we knew Hillary was gonna win and she didn\u2019t because some of us just dropped all thought about having her as president,\u201d she told The Huffington Post. \u201cIt\u2019s like if we dropped our thoughts and care about the AIDS epidemic, then more lives will leave this planet. So I\u2019m there to use my voice and celebrity in any way to help it get better.\u201d<\/p>\n Since its inception in 1987, AHF has provided cutting-edge medicine and advocacy to \u201cmore than 641,601 people in 36 countries,\u201d making it the largest provider of HIV\/AIDS medical care, according to the organization\u2019s site<\/a>.<\/p>\n And Michael Weinstein, the president of AHF, also hopes the series of events will serve as a \u201cpotent reminder\u201d and a \u201cclarion call to action\u201d that the fight against HIV\/AIDS isn\u2019t over.<\/p>\n \u201cThe irony is that we are the victims of our own success: As the AIDS situation improves, with better treatments and more people being able to access them, the urgency of winning the war against AIDS here in the U.S. and around the globe has diminished,\u201d Weinstein said in a press release for the event.<\/p>\n \u201cAs a result, HIV\/AIDS is increasingly pitted against other important issues as far as funding as well as for the attention of policy makers,\u201d he added. \u201cIt is critical that we continue to speak out through events like KTP in order to remind governments, public health officials and other stakeholders to keep the promise on AIDS and other key public health issues.\u201d<\/p>\n Participants<\/span>\u00a0can register to attend \u201cKeep the Promise\u201d 2016 here<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Patti LaBelle is on a mission to help combat the fight against HIV\/AIDS.
