The heaviest woman in the world underwent successful weight-loss surgery, doctors announced Thursday.<\/p>\n
The bariatric surgery was performed Tuesday in Mumbai on 1,000-plus-pound Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty,\u00a0according to NDTV.<\/a><\/p>\n
Abd El Aty, 36, had to be removed from her home in Alexandria, Egypt \u2014 which she hadn\u2019t left in 25 years \u2014 with a crane.<\/p>\n
She was then flown last month on a plane especially modified with safety gear, like a portable ventilator and defibrillator, to Saifee Hospital in India.<\/p>\n
Doctors performed the laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy only after Ahmed shed more than 220 pounds.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe is now on oral fluids and accepting them well,\u201d the hospital said in a statement. \u201cThe future course of action for the medical team working on her will be to correct all her associated medical problems, to get her fit enough to fly back to Egypt as soon as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n
Abd El Aty is expected to lose more weight in the coming months.<\/p>\n
