{"id":166269,"date":"2017-04-03T18:19:04","date_gmt":"2017-04-03T18:19:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/healthmedicinet.com\/i\/trial-of-doctor-accused-of-trafficking-50000-opioid-pills-begins\/"},"modified":"2017-04-03T18:19:04","modified_gmt":"2017-04-03T18:19:04","slug":"trial-of-doctor-accused-of-trafficking-50000-opioid-pills-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/healthmedicinet.com\/i\/trial-of-doctor-accused-of-trafficking-50000-opioid-pills-begins\/","title":{"rendered":"Trial of doctor accused of trafficking 50,000 opioid pills begins"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The drug-trafficking trial for a Nova Scotia doctor accused of prescribing 50,000 pills to a hospital patient has started with a hearing into the admissibility of some evidence on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Ten days have been set aside for the trial of Dr. Sarah Dawn Jones in Bridgewater provincial court.<\/p>\n<p>When charges were laid around a year ago, Bridgewater police alleged that Jones wrote the prescription for oxycodone and oxyneo pills over a one-year period.<\/p>\n<p>Jones worked at the Crossroads Family Practice in the Halifax suburb of Tantallon, but the province&#8217;s College of Physicians and Surgeons has said she&#8217;s under an interim suspension.<\/p>\n<p>The college has said the matter was reported to police last August after a pharmacist reported unusual activity to the college&#8217;s investigative branch.<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i.cbc.ca\/1.2900958.1489527490!\/cpImage\/httpImage\/image.jpg_gen\/derivatives\/original_620\/opioids-overdose-deaths-20140707.jpg\" alt=\"Opioids Overdose Deaths 20140707\" width=\"100%\" \/><\/p>\n<p class=\"figure-caption\">Charges against Jones were laid almost a year ago.
