A study found that over-qualified employees suffer high levels of stress and are also likely to damage a company with bad behaviour such as bullying or theft (stock image)<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"mol-factbox-title\">DANGERS OF BEING OVERQUALIFIED<\/h3>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Psychological strain can stem from employees who do not feel they are rewarded for their efforts because there is an imbalance between their efforts and the reward structure of work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Professor Harari said: &#8216;We invest effort at work and we expect rewards in return, such as esteem and career opportunities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;For an overqualified employee, that expectation has been violated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;This is a stressful experience for employees, which leads to poor psychological wellbeing, such as negative emotions and psychological strain.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The study found workers who feel overqualified are also more likely to engage in deviant behaviour.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">This might include coming in late or leaving early, theft and bullying fellow workers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The researchers, from Florida Atlantic University&#8217;s College of Business, said employees who believe they are over-qualified are  unsatisfied with their job, uncommitted to their company and suffer psychological strain.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">This causes them to be angry, frustrated and unlikely to care for the job.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The study team looked at 25 years of research into &#8216;perceived over-qualification&#8217;
