The experience, which Jenelle wrote about in her new memoir, Read Between the Lines: From the Diary of a Teenage Mom<\/em> ($21, amazon.com<\/a>), made her realize how bad her struggle with drugs had become. \u201cI was appalled\u2014I couldn\u2019t believe that happened,\u201d she says. \u201cI really was so close to dying.\u201d Jenelle says she hadn\u2019t spoken to her mom in two weeks at the time, but she reached out to her. \u201cI called her and begged her to please come help,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

Jenelle says she quit cold turkey after that. \u201cI just went to my mom\u2019s house and rode it out,\u201d she recalls. \u201cI started to go through withdrawals for the first time. I didn\u2019t know it would be like the worst flu I\u2019ve ever had for seven days.\u201d Jenelle says she experienced insomnia, panic attacks, hot and cold sweats for a week, uncontrollable shaking, and joint pain. \u201cYou can die from trying to withdraw on your own,\u201d she says. \u201cLuckily did it safely. But I said to myself, \u2018I\u2019m done. I can\u2019t ever go through this again.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Jenelle says she decided to speak out about her experience to call attention to how severe the heroin epidemic is. \u201cIt\u2019s horrible. In an excerpt from Jenelle\u2019s memoir that was published by E!<\/a> in June, Jenelle said she was shooting up heroin four or five times a day at one point.
