{"id":196445,"date":"2017-08-25T17:08:07","date_gmt":"2017-08-25T17:08:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/healthmedicinet.com\/i\/aetna-responds-after-patients-hiv-status-revealed-in-envelope-window\/"},"modified":"2017-08-25T17:08:07","modified_gmt":"2017-08-25T17:08:07","slug":"aetna-responds-after-patients-hiv-status-revealed-in-envelope-window","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/healthmedicinet.com\/i\/aetna-responds-after-patients-hiv-status-revealed-in-envelope-window\/","title":{"rendered":"Aetna responds after patients&#8217; HIV status revealed in envelope window"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>PHILADELPHIA &#8212;<\/strong> Two legal organizations say health insurer Aetna revealed the <span class=\"link\">HIV status<\/a><\/span> of patients in several states by mailing envelopes with a large, clear window that showed information on purchasing <span class=\"link\">HIV prescriptions<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The Legal Action Center and the AIDS Law Project of Pennsylvania say some patients&#8217; relatives and neighbors learned of their HIV status as a result.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"link\">Aetna<\/a><\/span> says that &#8220;this type of mistake is unacceptable&#8221; and that the company is reviewing processes to ensure it never happens again.<\/p>\n<p>The Hartford, Connecticut-based Aetna started notifying customers of the breach in letters sent this week.<\/p>\n<p>The legal organizations sent a cease-and-desist letter to Aetna.
