If your laptop is old and sputtering (a.k.a. totally slow and does that thing where it\u2019s constantly overheating), it\u2019s time for a new, shiny piece of equipment\u2014and now might be a prime opportunity to get your hands on one. That\u2019s because back-to-school season is one of the best times to buy. That\u2019s when things like laptops go on sale in an effort to make room for new models.<\/p>\n

And the sale season only gets better from here. Waiting until mid- to late-September will net you an even bigger deal, says Kyle James, founder of the savings blog\u00a0Rather-Be-Shopping.com<\/a>. \u201cThe further you get into back-to-school season, the better the deals as retailers cut prices to try to move inventory in anticipation of Black Friday\/Cyber Monday,\u201d he explains, adding that prices may drop another 20 to 30 percent. Though we\u2019ve got to say, they\u2019re really good now.<\/p>\n

Another tip: Though you can buy a variety of sizes in a laptop, models with 15-inch screen sizes are the sweet spot for deals, says James. Any bigger, and it\u2019s a premium laptop; smaller, and it costs extra, thanks to the portability perk.<\/p>\n

Your best bet may be with office-supply stores like Staples and Office Depot and OfficeMax (now one company!). \u201cLast year, they had some absolutely amazing laptop deals, and this year is more of the same,” says James. “But the one catch is that they sell out quickly because they have very limited inventory.”<\/p>\n
