participants involved in the latest trial of three NSAIDs had evidence of or were at an increased risk of heart disease.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Investigators discovered that celecoxib, often sold under the brand name Celebrex, decreased systolic blood pressure slightly over a four-month period.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"mol-factbox-title\">THE TRUE DANGERS OF IBUPROFEN<\/h3>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Ibuprofen and other painkillers may trigger a heart condition, a major study uncovered last September.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">University of Milano-Bicocca in Italy experts found patients who regularly take the pills are up to 20 per cent more likely to develop heart failure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">While the over-the-counter painkillers taken by millions could significantly raise the risk of fatal heart problems, a major study suggested in March.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">People who take ibuprofen have a 31 per cent increased risk of cardiac arrest, Copenhagen University Hospital scientists found.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Until recently, NSAIDs were used for arthritis and back pain \u2013 but several recent studies have suggested they could do more harm than good.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">However, both naproxen and ibuprofen were found to increase it, raising the risk of heart disease and stroke. Ibuprofen&#8217;s jump was deemed significant.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><span class=\"mol-style-bold health-ccox mol-style-medium\">What could the results lead to?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Professor Ruschitzka\u00a0said decreasing blood pressure by a small amount could lower both stroke and heart mortality by 10 per cent and 7 per cent respectively.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">He hypothesised that such an action could avoid more than 70,000 deaths from stroke and 60,000 deaths from coronary heart disease each year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><span class=\"mol-style-bold health-ccox mol-style-medium\">Welcomed by experts\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Arthritis Research UK said ibuprofen, one of the most widely prescribed drugs in the world, was taken by many sufferers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">A spokesman said: &#8216;Long-term use of NSAIDs, including ibuprofen, can increase the risk of problems with your heart or circulation.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">They added: &#8216;You shouldn\u2019t take ibuprofen for long-term pain relief without seeing your doctor first.&#8217;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Professor Jeremy Pearson, associate medical director at British Heart Foundation, welcomed the findings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">He said that patients and doctors must &#8216;weigh up the risk and benefits of NSAIDs&#8217;, especially if they have another long-term health
