class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The discovery was made after the 64-year-old patient went to hospital suffering pain in his left side and trouble urinating.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">While these mineral stones are often small enough to be passed naturally, this case required urgent intervention.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">A CT scan showed the bladder stone \u2013 a condition which most commonly affects men aged 50 or older \u2013 measured 4.7 inches by 3.7 inches by 3 inches\u00a0(12 by 9.5 by 7.5cms).<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">After surgery to remove it, It could determine your risk of&#8230;<\/span><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"mol-factbox-title\">WHAT ARE BLADDER STONES?\u00a0<\/h3>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Bladder stones are hard lumps of minerals that can form inside the bladder when it&#8217;s not completely empty of urine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">They may not cause any symptoms if they&#8217;re small enough to be passed out of the bladder when you pee.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">However, most people with bladder stones do experience symptoms because the stones either irritate the wall of the bladder or block the flow of urine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Typical symptoms of bladder stones include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"mol-bullets-with-font\">\n<li class=\"\">Lower abdominal pain, which can often be severe (men may also have pain in or around their penis)<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Pain or difficulty when peeing<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Peeing more frequently (particularly at night)<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Cloudy or dark-coloured urine<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Blood in the urine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Most cases of bladder stones affect men aged 50 or older.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">A common reason for this in men is having an enlarged prostate gland that blocks the flow of urine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The most common treatment is a cystolitholapaxy, where a thin tube (cystoscope) with a camera at the end is used to find the bladder stones\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><span class=\"mol-style-italic\">Source: NHS Choices\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The patient&#8217;s stone \u2013 while impressive \u2013 isn&#8217;t the largest on record.
