It\u00a0is the world&#8217;s most widely consumed central nervous system stimulant.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;After ingestion, caffeine is readily absorbed into the bloodstream and distributed to the tissues.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;During pregnancy, elimination of caffeine is prolonged and it rapidly passes all biological membranes, including the blood-brain and placenta barriers, resulting in exposure of the foetus.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Results further suggest overweight or obese five year olds are five per cent more likely to have mothers who had the highest caffeine consumption during pregnancy compared to those who had the lowest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Even just one-to-two cups of coffee a day during pregnancy is linked to children being overweight or obese children by the time they go to school.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Only very high caffeine consumption is associated with obesity beyond eight years old.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><span class=\"mol-style-medium health-ccox mol-style-bold\">English women drink a lot of tea\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">In terms of caffeine&#8217;s source, Professor Sengpiel said: &#8216;In the Nordic countries, coffee is the primary source, while, women in, for example, England receive the greatest amount of caffeine from black tea.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;If you look at mothers in the younger age group, it comes from was calculated by investigating their consumption of coffee, tea, chocolate and energy drinks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">One mug of instant coffee contains 100mg of caffeine, a mug of filter coffee has 140mg, a cup of tea 75mg, a can of Pepsi 37.6mg and a can of Red Bull 30mg.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">A 50g bar of dark chocolate contains less than 25mg.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p
