{"id":250301,"date":"2019-10-15T18:57:16","date_gmt":"2019-10-15T18:57:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/healthmedicinet.com\/i\/teenager-with-two-vaginas-says-it-took-doctors-eight-years-to-spot-her-unusual-anatomy\/"},"modified":"2019-10-15T18:57:16","modified_gmt":"2019-10-15T18:57:16","slug":"teenager-with-two-vaginas-says-it-took-doctors-eight-years-to-spot-her-unusual-anatomy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/healthmedicinet.com\/i\/teenager-with-two-vaginas-says-it-took-doctors-eight-years-to-spot-her-unusual-anatomy\/","title":{"rendered":"Teenager with TWO vaginas says it took doctors eight years to spot her unusual anatomy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Uterus didelphys, also known as a double uterus, is a condition where a woman is born with two uterus, to separate cervixes and sometimes two vaginas, though this is not always the case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">It occurs because in a female foetus, the uterus starts out as two small tubes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">As the foetus develops, the tubes normally join to create one larger, hollow organ \u2014 the uterus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Sometimes the tubes don&#8217;t join completely and each one develops into a separate hollow organ so the woman is born with two wombs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">It often only becomes noticeable after puberty and is diagnosed with a physical exam or an ultrasound scan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">In terms of physical anatomy, the two wombs are often slightly smaller than average in order to fit, though they can be as big as a &#8216;normal&#8217; womb.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">It also makes it possible to be pregnant twice at the same time &#8211; with a baby in each womb.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Some women are also born with two vaginas, although they can have sex and menstruate in the same way as people with just one.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;They may know they have two and be able to find them, or they may not realise,&#8217; Dr Leila Hanna, a consultant gynaecologist  Obstetrician at BMI The Sloane Hospital, told MailOnline.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;It can be painful because there are two squashed in the same area, so sometimes we do an operation to join them together, but its not necessary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">&#8216;They could also have abnormalities of their kidneys and the tube which bring the urine from the bladder.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Women will frequently have a slightly higher risk of late miscarriage, premature delivery and bleeding during pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Often Caesarean sections are recommended, to reduce the risk of complications.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">There is no treatment or cure for the condition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Uterus didelphys, also known as a double uterus, is a condition where a woman is born with two uterus, to separate cervixes and sometimes two vaginas, though this is not always the case.
