It is named after Thomas Hodgkin, an English doctor who first identified the disease in 1832.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">It affects around 1,950 people each year in the UK, and 8,500 a year in the US.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Hodgkin&#8217;s lymphoma is most common between the ages of 20 and 24, and 75 and 79.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><span class=\"mol-style-underline\">Five-year survival rates:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The survival rates are much more favorable than most other cancers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"mol-bullets-with-font\">\n<li>Stage 1: 90%<\/li>\n<li>Stage 2: 90%<\/li>\n<li>Stage 3: 80%<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">Stage 4: 65%\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><span class=\"mol-style-underline\">Symptoms include:<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"mol-bullets-with-font\">\n<li class=\"\">a painless swelling in the armpits, neck and groin\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">heavy night sweating<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">extreme weight loss\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">itching<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">shortness of breath\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">coughing\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><span class=\"mol-style-underline\">Risk factors:<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"mol-bullets-with-font\">\n<li>lowered immunity<\/li>\n<li>a family history of the condition<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">smokers\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">those who are overweight<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><span class=\"mol-style-underline\">Treatment:<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul class=\"mol-bullets-with-font\">\n<li>chemotherapy<\/li>\n<li>radiotherapy<\/li>\n<li>steroids\u00a0<\/li>\n<li class=\"\">stem cell or bone marrow transplants<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><span class=\"mol-style-bold\"><span class=\"mol-style-underline\">WHAT IS NON-HODKIN&#8217;S LYMPHOMA?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Non-Hodgkin lymphoma\u00a0can occur anywhere in the body but is usually first noticed in the lymph nodes around sufferers&#8217; necks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">Non-Hodgkin&#8217;s lymphoma affects around 13,700 new people every year in the UK.
