{"id":268921,"date":"2020-09-07T15:06:22","date_gmt":"2020-09-07T15:06:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/healthmedicinet.com\/i\/coronavirus-football-crowd-must-isolate-after-outbreak\/"},"modified":"2020-09-07T15:06:22","modified_gmt":"2020-09-07T15:06:22","slug":"coronavirus-football-crowd-must-isolate-after-outbreak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/healthmedicinet.com\/i\/coronavirus-football-crowd-must-isolate-after-outbreak\/","title":{"rendered":"Coronavirus: Football crowd must isolate after outbreak"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">Up to 300 people who attended a charity football match are being told to self-isolate after 28 people tested positive for Covid-19.<\/p>\n<p>The event at Burnside Working Men&#8217;s Club (WMC), in Fencehouses on the border of Sunderland and Durham, took place on 30 August.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone who attended must self-isolate for 14 days from then.<\/p>\n<p>Burnside WMC said &#8220;if we knew at the time what we know now&#8221; then the match &#8220;would never have gone ahead&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement it wished everyone affected a &#8220;speedy recovery&#8221; and admitted safety precautions on the day &#8220;were not strict enough&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Durham County Council has been working with Sunderland City Council and Public Health England to manage the response.<\/p>\n<p>Durham&#8217;s director of public health Amanda Healy said contact tracing was being carried out to find anyone who had been in close contact with someone who tested positive.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-portrait no-caption full-width\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><\/p>\n<p>            <\/span><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>She added: &#8220;However, we are also asking anyone who was at the charity event on Sunday 30 August to immediately self-isolate up until midnight on the 13th, unless they&#8217;re contacted individually by NHS Test and Trace with further advice.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are also asking people in the community who have already had a test which has come back negative to self-isolate for 14 days from the 30th because it can take up to 14 days for symptoms to appear. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is essential if we are to stop the spread of the virus in this community as quickly as possible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<ul class=\"story-body__unordered-list\">\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">SOCIAL DISTANCING: What are the rules now?<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">SUPPORT BUBBLES: What are they and who can be in yours?<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">FACE MASKS: When do I need to wear one?<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">SCHOOLS: What will happen if children catch coronavirus?<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"story-body__list-item\">TESTING: What tests are available?<\/a>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Burnside WMC&#8217;s statement said: &#8220;It is with deep regret and sadness that our charity football match has caused a significant rise in positive Covid-19 cases and tests in the DH4\/DH5 area. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It was a football match planned with the aim to raise money for an incredible charity group that is close to the club&#8217;s heart. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I would hope that people understand that if we knew at the time what we know now, this football match would never have gone ahead.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday another football match was called off<\/a> in neighbouring South Tyneside, which has been added to England&#8217;s watchlist as an &#8220;area of concern&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><i>Follow BBC North East  Cumbria on <\/i>Twitter<\/a><i>, <\/i>Facebook<\/a><i> and <\/i>Instagram<\/a><i>.
