A great-grandfather is thought to have has become the world’s oldest cancer survivor – at the age of 99.<\/p>\n

World War Two veteran Victor Marston was found to have a cancerous tumour on his bowel after he was rushed to hospital with acute stomach pain.<\/p>\n

Tests were carried out on the nonagenarian to determine he was fit enough before he underwent an operation to remove the deadly growth.<\/p>\n

When Mr Marston came round, he was told the surgery had been successful and the tumour – which he knew nothing about – had been taken out.<\/p>\n

Twelve days on from the life-saving treatment, Mr Marston has been issued with a clean bill of health and is due to go home this weekend.<\/p>\n

Victor Marston, 99, underwent surgery to remove the cancerous growth in his bowl and hopes to be home by the weekend. He said:\u00a0‘I didn’t know I had cancer. You often get no sign of it’<\/p>\n

Mr Marston, pictured in Bournemouth in 1947 (left) and 1949, has survived cancer twice in the last eight years<\/p>\n

Surgeon Mr Wijeyekoon, who operated on Mr Marston, said he believed Mr Marston was the oldest cancer survivor in the world to successfully have treatment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘We have been researching for the past few days whether there is another cancer survivor older than him in the world, but we haven’t found anyone who has beaten his record,’ he said.<\/p>\n

The pensioner, who has already beaten bowel cancer twice in the last eight years, said he had no idea he had cancer until he was in hospital.<\/p>\n

‘After the surgery the doctors said they had cleared the blockage in my stomach and in doing so they had cleared the cancer as well.<\/p>\n

‘I didn’t know I had cancer. You often get no sign of it, ‘ he said.<\/p>\n

‘They told me ”you are now clear of cancer” and I said ”thank heavens for that, I’ve still got so much left to do”.<\/p>\n
