It looks like a scene from a horror movie but this remarkable X-ray shows how one man miraculously survived being stabbed in the eye with a huge knife.

Not only that, doctors even managed to save Alberto Palacio Vizcaino’s sight.

The 22-year-old Colombian was reportedly stabbed by his sister’s boyfriend in he northern town of Soledad.

According to reports, Daniel Del Valle Serrano, also 22, took out a knife and stabbed him in his left eye before running off.

An X-ray shows how the large knife penetrated through Alberto Palacio Vizcaino’s eye socket, touching the brain

Scans show how he was found with the knife wedged in his eye following an alleged confrontation with his sister’s boyfriend

The victim told local media: ‘He swore at me, took a knife out and when I tried to step back from him, he simply attacked.’

Mr Vizcaino was taken to hospital and had to wait for 18 hours with the blade in his head before a team of doctors to be assembled to extract it.

The knife penetrated eight centimetres, or 3.1 inches, into the side of Mr Vizcaino’s eye socket and also pierced his brain.

He said: ‘I tried to take the blade out myself, but I couldn’t, it was too tightly wedged in.’

Thanks to neurosurgeon Alberto Dau Acosta, who led the operation, Mr Vizcaino’s life was saved.

Alberto Palacio Vizcaino, pictured in hospital following surgery to remove the weapon, is expected to have 90 per cent of his sight in that eye restored

Moreover, he kept 90 percent of his sight and suffered no brain damage.

Dr Acosta said: ‘After taking out the knife, we made an evaluation and found pupillary reflexes indicating it was a success.’

And a delighted Mr Vizcaino added: ‘I see really clear, I don’t feel anything.’

Relatives have filed a complaint with police, but the attacker has not yet been found.

The victim is currently stable in La Misericordia Clinic, in the city of Barranquilla, but may need further surgery.
