‘I Worked Out To 5 Different Netflix Shows—Here’s How They Rank’

Even though I love working out and taking tons of different classes, I have to say winter makes that somewhat challenging. I mean, who wants to peel themselves out from under a warm down comforter to brave the cold, ice, and rain in the name of a better bod? Well, many actually, but I’m not one of them. So, when Women’s Health challenged me to work out to five different Netflix shows at home, I thought “Hell, yeah! Finally, a fitness article I can get into.” 

The only thing is, I don’t have a workout studio in my tiny NYC apartment, so I turned to the pros to give me some tips for exercises I can do in my casa, in front of the TV.  “Walking into class with a bunch of like-minded individuals is the best feeling—the energy, the friendly competition, the music, the camaraderie—but let’s be honest, sometimes you can’t make it to class and the only thing that can get you to ‘feel the burn’ is bribing yourself by watching your fave TV show,” says Tiffani Robbins, head trainer at The Bari Studio.

Turns out there may even be benefits to getting your sweat on in front of the tube. “One thing that watching a dramatic TV show might do is keep you in the movement for a longer amount of time because you’re so enthralled with what’s going on,” says Robbins. “As long as you’re able to still concentrate on correct form and safety, letting the TV distract you a little into doing more reps isn’t such a bad thing.”

So I set out to start my experiment, ranking each show’s workout-worthiness on a scale of one to 10:
