Online Voter Information Enquiry System launched today

Hong Kong (HKSAR) – The Online Voter Information Enquiry System (OVIES) was launched today (September 1). Electors may log in to the system (www.voterinfo.gov.hk) anytime to check their own voter registration particulars.

“Compared with the present arrangements whereby members of the public would need to visit the Registration and Electoral Office (REO) or the public enquiry service centres of the 18 District Offices in person during office hours to inspect the voter registers, or call the REO’s enquiry hotline to check registration particulars, the new system provides an extra, simple and convenient means for electors,” a spokesman for the REO said.

Through OVIES, members of the public can check whether they are a registered elector and whether their registered address is still their principal place of residence, as well as their existing constituencies.

If the enquirer is not an elector, he may download an application form for voter registration and submit the signed form to the REO by post, fax or email.

If an elector has changed residential address or other particulars, he should timely submit an application on change of particulars to the REO to update his particulars as early as possible. A person or an elector with a valid digital certificate can submit an application for new registration or update the particulars through the GovHK website.

“Operating round the clock, OVIES enables electors to log in to the system anytime and anywhere to view their registration particulars. Depending on actual need, they may then submit relevant application forms for updating their registration particulars.

“To ensure protection of personal data, an elector is required to go through an admission control procedure to verify his status before he can access his registration particulars.

The enquirer is required to first input his name and Hong Kong identity card number. If information matches the record in the database, the enquirer will be prompted to provide information corresponding to his registered address for further verification. After successfully completing the log-in verification, he can then check his own voter registration particulars,” the spokesman said.

A leaflet on OVIES will be mailed to more than 2 million households along with the water bills from today to encourage electors to try out the new system.

“The launch of OVIES will enable electors to keep their registration particulars up to date and thereby enhance the accuracy of the voter registers,” the spokesman added.

For enquiries, please call the REO hotline 2891 1001.
