Keeping unruly body hair in check is one of the most irritating, not to mention painful, aspects of being a woman.
But women have been sent into a frenzy by the unexpected revelation, made during a Mumsnet discussion, that pubic hair tends to diminish and even disappear after the menopause.
The outpouring was prompted by a user who asked if ‘lady gardens stop needing to be mowed’, and received a flurry of responses confirming it as a fact.
However, some warned it’s a double edged sword as hairs tend to sprout in other places they’ve never troubled before, such as on the chin.

Several ex nurses joined the conversation to confirm that having seen countless patients in a state of undress, things do get more sparse with age.
However, they also made mention of hair going grey – a peril that others also warned their fellow women of.

Several women confirmed the phenomenon, but bemoaned the fact that they now have hair sprouting in unexpected places instead, such as on their toes and chins.
One woman claimed she found a chin hair so long that it rivalled the ones on her head and couldn’t understand why nobody had warned her about it.
After having the phenomenon confirmed, people were eager to know if it’s a gradual process or if they can expect it to happen all at once
Many people were curious as to why the same thing doesn’t happen with armpit or leg hair.
Meanwhile, others were keen to know how the process takes place – whether it’s a gradual loss or happens all in one go while shopping at Asda, as one person suggested.
One woman cautioned that when the hair does disappear, you’ll discover that what lies beneath has changed in appearance too.
