{"id":33735,"date":"2016-01-22T17:04:46","date_gmt":"2016-01-22T17:04:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/healthmedicinet.com\/news\/what-to-expect-when-youre-expecting-with-two-feet-of-snow-imminent\/"},"modified":"2016-01-22T17:04:46","modified_gmt":"2016-01-22T17:04:46","slug":"what-to-expect-when-youre-expecting-with-two-feet-of-snow-imminent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/healthmedicinet.com\/news\/what-to-expect-when-youre-expecting-with-two-feet-of-snow-imminent\/","title":{"rendered":"What to expect when you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re expecting with two feet of snow imminent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With a huge winter storm looming over the eastern United States, many of the region\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s residents will stock up on canned goods, bottled water and \u00e2\u20ac\u201c for some \u00e2\u20ac\u201c diapers.<\/p>\n<p>The storm, which is expected to pound the Mid-Atlantic states on Friday and Saturday, has mothers-to-be asking a simple, yet vital, question: What do you do if you go into labor and there are two feet of snow on the ground?<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m vascillating between thinking this is no big deal and freaking out,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Julie Walsh, a former lobbyist living in the Washington, D.C.-area, wrote on a Facebook page for \u00e2\u20ac\u0153These Walls,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d her personal blog. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153GOOD LORD, WHAT WILL I DO IF I GO INTO LABOR IN THE MIDDLE OF A BLIZZARD?!\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153So who has a snowplow and truck that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s gonna come take me to the hospital when I go into labor during a freaking blizzard?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d wrote Facebook user Jillian Hostetter from Churchton, Maryland.<\/p>\n<p>It is not an unfounded concern, according to Chris Strong, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Sterling, Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Know that it will be very difficult if not impossible to move around Friday night and Saturday (in the Washington, D.C., area),\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Strong said.<\/p>\n<p>The National Weather Service anticipates as much as 24 inches (60 cm) of snow to hit the region during the storm.<\/p>\n<p>Strong suggested that those who have the means and are expecting to give birth in the coming days consider getting a hotel room near a hospital.<\/p>\n<p>States of emergency have already been declared for Maryland and Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>In the event that roads are not clear, women going into labor should call 911, according to Timothy J. Wilson, a spokesperson for the District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re going to be in service regardless of the weather,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in the Mid-Atlantic region, pregnant women expressed mild horror over the prospect of giving birth in the middle of a snowstorm.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Finally a snowstorm,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d tweeted Golden Oreo (@HomeypopBee) on Wednesday. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I betcha I go into labor.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>The hashtag #AwwHellSnow was trending on Twitter in the United States on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Posted in reference to the alarming weather forecasts, the hashtag first originated in February 2015, as part of a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153hashtag game,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d hosted by \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153All winter we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve had highs of 64 in NYC,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d tweeted Meredith Frame (@MeredithFrame) from Brooklyn, New York. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Now I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m 9 months pregnant, due any day  here comes a blizzard.
