SFH on import of Mainland live poultry and tobacco control

Hong Kong (HKSAR) – Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, after attending a public function this morning (September 2):

Reporter: (On resumption of import of Mainland live poultry and tobacco control measures.)

Secretary for Food and Health: I think all of us would like to see the resumption of Mainland live poultry supply to Hong Kong. Although we still have not received formal notification from the relevant Mainland authorities, through our very close liaison with our Mainland counterparts, we know that certain preparatory works have already been undertaken.

Regarding tobacco control, Hong Kong will continue the current strategies adopted by the Department of Health, including the implementation of legislation as well as health promotion to the public. These are the major areas of Hong Kong’s tobacco control initiatives.

By adopting these strategies, hopefully we can further lower the smoking prevalence to single digit.

(Please also refer to the Chinese portion of the transcript.)
