Stage production "Doubt" by Yu Hon-ting of Drama Gallery to be presented in September

Hong Kong (HKSAR) – The stage production “Doubt”, produced by Drama Gallery and featuring the collaboration of award-winning theatre talents, will be presented in September. The creative team includes Yu Hon-ting, who was awarded the Best Playwright prize at the 22nd Hong Kong Drama Awards for “nitehawk”; Gladys Liu, who has twice won Best Actress in the Hong Kong Drama Awards; and Joe Wong, who won the Award for Young Artist (Drama) in the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards in 2011.

In the story, a gentle and modest-looking widow, Grace, secretly sets up a sanctuary house for women who have a bad deal in life. Sexy and tough-looking Kazy and the soft-spoken Sek-nam serve Grace and work under her instructions.

A teenage girl, Zoe, checks in at the sanctuary house after having been badly beaten and is unable to have a baby. Zoe quickly integrates into life in the sanctuary while gradually coming to realise that it is actually a place for training victims to plan revenge by punishing or even killing their abusers. In addition, the supposedly sterile Zoe finds herself pregnant.

Faced with a pregnant Zoe, a tormented Sek-nam, and Kazy, who runs away, Grace sees her holy life begin to crumble. Her secret sides are being dragged out: fears of people, breaking up with God, questions over herself and more.

“Doubt” is written and directed by Yu Hon-ting, with Goretti Cheung as the set and costume designer, Frankie Ho as the sound designer and Eva Yan as the lighting designer. The main cast includes Gladys Liu, Joe Wong, Tam Tsz-ling, Alice Fung, Chung Yat-ming and Him Wu.

Drama Gallery was established in 1998 and is currently under the funding of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.

The group tells touching stories on the stage based on their unique feelings about cities. Yu Hon-ting and Gladys Liu, the founders, are both awardees of the Hong Kong Drama Awards. Through performances, tours of schools and communities and also drama education, they broaden the mindsets of the audience and bring dreams to life in society.

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), “Doubt” (to be performed in Cantonese) will be staged at 8pm on September 12 and 13 (Friday and Saturday) and at 3pm on September 13 and 14 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Theatre of Hong Kong City Hall.
