“I always say, that there is no secret [in my long hair],” says Dashik in an interview conducted in Russian and translated by liveleak.com. “First of all, it is genetics. My mother and grandmother had long hair. The most important thing is not to use dyes, chemicals, take care of my hair, and make treatments. Usually I use old wives’ recipes and wraps made from vegetable oil or sour cream.”

While there’s no concrete research on sour cream’s ability to keep hair healthy, a lot of women swear by it. Sour cream does contain lactic acid, an ingredient that strips dirt and oil, so there might be something to it. Luckily, you can actually find lactic acid in store-bought products (if the thought of slathering sour cream through your strands repulses you). Try L’Oreal Professionnel Absolut Repair Lipidium Instant Reconstructing Masque ($29, drugstore.com).

Dashik also says taking a tablespoon of linseed oil in the A.M. improves the condition of her hair, among other things, and this review of studies affirms that the stuff does, indeed, combat dullness.

FWIW, we’re not the only ones who are fascinated: Dashik has racked up more than 100,000 Instagram followers. Many of them have nudged her to donate her hair for wigs, and she has written that she’ll follow through with that plan sometime next year.
