People who are learning to code have grown in number recently due to the demand for skilled programmers. Making individualized learning experiences, however, is challenging due to a teacher shortage. With innovative programming languages and challenging code samples, students may require assistance. By delivering specialized teaching, Natural Language Generation (NLG) models like ChatGPT change programming education. These models can decipher complex programming concepts and provide explanations that sound human. NLG offers access to individualized lectures, code samples, and explanations for each student.
In this context, a research team from Taiwan recently published a paper to introduce GPTutor. GPTutor, a ChatGPT-powered programming tool, is a Visual Studio Code extension that leverages the capabilities of the ChatGPT API to provide comprehensive explanations for programming code. The main idea of the proposed tool is to utilize NLG models as programming tutors to provide code explanations. By leveraging the OpenAI ChatGPT API, GPTutor retrieves pertinent code and provides highly precise and concise explanations.
