October 24, 2015, 3:00 PM|No alcohol is safe for baby some experts say, and new guidelines are set for mammograms.
A unique drink that promises to sober you up in an hour and prevent a hangover is being launched in time for Christmas.
Created in collaboration with a Florida doctor, Safety Shot claims to be the “world’s first patented drink” that suppresses hangovers by halving blood alcohol levels in just 30 minutes.
This, says the wellness company behind it, dramatically reduces feelings of drunkenness ? including lack of focus and slow movements, as well as hangovers.
And according to the latest press release published by the company, the drink will be available for purchase on its website website and Amazon from the first week of December.
Safety Shot, which claims to reduce blood alcohol levels by half every minute you drink it, will launch in the first week of December and will be available on the brand’s website and on Amazon.
It’s not yet entirely clear what exactly the drink contains, although the website mentions vitamins and nootropics ? substances that improve cognitive focus.
The drink, consumed as soon as you finish a drinking session, is said to help speed up the breakdown of alcohol in the blood while forming a protective shield around the stomach wall, limiting the amount that is absorbed.
This in turn would limit alcohol’s impact on the central nervous system, which becomes depressed when booze enters the body by binding to neurotransmitters that hinder communication. This is what leads to slowed brain activity, resulting in poor cognition, balance problems and speech problems.
Research shows that alcohol-related emergency admissions increase significantly during the holidays, especially on New Year’s Eve
According to the brand’s website, Safety Shot restarts the activity of the central nervous system, helping you think more clearly.
The product’s ‘comprehensive combination of minerals and ingredients’ is said to reduce dehydration.
A study of the product published last month evaluated volunteers who were served alcohol for an hour and then asked to stop.
The participants’ blood alcohol levels were measured using a breathalyzer, and they were then asked to drink six ounces of Safety Shot.
The researchers found that participants who drank Safety Shot saw their blood sugar levels drop seven times faster than a control group.
Dr. Glynn Wilson, Safety Shot’s chief scientific officer, said: ‘The results of this volunteer study clearly show that Safety Shot reduces blood alcohol levels at a statistically significant level and at a much faster rate than the percentage of people who did. . don’t drink a Safety Shot.’
However, the researchers also stated that the study was small, but another higher quality study is underway.
The company also plans to develop a more concentrated version of the prescription formula, which can be used as a detox product for alcohol poisoning.
Brian John, CEO of Safety Shot, said: ‘We are confident that Safety Shot will become a blockbuster product and create a new category in the beverage industry.’
