New research is linking it to dementia<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">High blood pressure &#8211; especially in middle age &#8211; is linked to dementia, a study has found.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">More than one in four adults have high blood pressure, dubbed the silent killer, although many people will not know.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">A review of existing studies by the American Heart Association (AHA) found high blood pressure &#8216;disrupts the structure and function of cerebral blood vessels&#8217;.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">This leads to damage of the white matter parts of the brain that are critical for cognitive function, and may promote dementia, including Alzheimer&#8217;s, they said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\">The experts also pointed to &#8216;strong evidence&#8217;
