Like <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">venlafaxine<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">desvenlafaxine<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SNRI<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">). trials<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 3% to 11% of men experienced erectile dysfunction depending on the dose. Up to 8% could not have an orgasm, up to 6% could not easily orgasm, and up to 5% had some form of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ejaculation<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> disorder. Other problems experienced by more than 2% of participants included a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">decrease in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sex drive<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, abnormal orgasms, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ejaculation<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> failure, and other types of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sexual dysfunction<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. One to 3% of women taking <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">desvenlafaxine<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> reported an inability to orgasm. For most people, these <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sexual dysfunctions<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8061302\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will resolve<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> when the drug is stopped. These include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, sleepiness, fatigue, tremor, and weird dreams. Sexual problems are usually delayed <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">side effects<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, requiring a few weeks of exposure to the drug before becoming obvious. The same applies to most of the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">serious side effects of desvenlafaxine<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> including lung diseases, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">high blood pressure<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, heart problems, pancreas problems, seizures, and suicidality.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-long-do-desvenlafaxine-side-effects-last\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How long do <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">desvenlafaxine<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">side effects<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> last?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many of the mild <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">side effects of desvenlafaxine<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> may improve over time as the body adapts to the drug. If they don\u2019t, they should improve when the drug is discontinued. Don\u2019t expect to feel better overnight, however. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When it\u2019s time to quit taking desvenlafaxine, dosages must be reduced gradually.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Some <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">serious side effects<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, however, may take some time to resolve even after <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">desvenlafaxine<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been discontinued. These include <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pancreatitis<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, lung diseases, or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">glaucoma<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-are-the-long-term-side-effects-of-desvenlafaxine\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What are the long-term <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">side effects of desvenlafaxine<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a general rule, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">antidepressant<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> therapy is meant to last anywhere from six to nine months, but some people take <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">antidepressants<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for a year or longer. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Desvenlafaxine<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has no <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">side effects<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that are due specifically to long-term or prolonged use. Outside of an initial assessment of depression and suicidality, no special monitoring is required in healthy people taking <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">desvenlafaxine<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"desvenlafaxine-contraindications\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Desvenlafaxine<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> contraindications<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Desvenlafaxine<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is never prescribed to people with a known hypersensitivity to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">desvenlafaxine<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">venlafaxine<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It is also contraindicated in people taking <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">monoamine oxidase inhibitors<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MAOIs<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"pregnancy\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pregnancy<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Desvenlafaxine<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can be <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">taken during pregnancy<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and has not been associated with birth defects. However, any use of an <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SNRI<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> like <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">desvenlafaxine<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during the third trimester does risk the baby being born with withdrawal symptoms or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">serotonin syndrome<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. There also may be increased bleeding after delivery.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"breastfeeding\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Breastfeeding<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Desvenlafaxine<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can be taken while <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">breastfeeding<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
