As a brand-name drug, Breztri\u2019s average cost isn\u2019t what most people would call cheap, but there are ways to bring it down. , we\u2019ve provided the essential details on a few of the most reliable money-saving methods.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"how-much-does-breztri-cost\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How much does Breztri cost?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For someone paying completely out of pocket, with no discounts or insurance coverage, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Breztri costs<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> an average of $860 for a 30-day supply. Everyone is eligible, even people who have Medicare or private health insurance. However, you can\u2019t use  discounts on top of insurance coverage, so you\u2019ll need to see which can get you the better price.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"2-get-a-90-day-prescription\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2. Get a 90-day prescription<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Doctors often write 30-day prescriptions, but sometimes, 90-day prescriptions are actually less expensive in the long run. Look into government or nonprofit assistance<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The federal government, state governments, and certain nonprofit companies all offer prescription assistance for eligible individuals. But those medications (or ones like them) can come as two separate inhalers as well. \u201cI\u2019ve seen patients use similar combination inhalers with corticosteroids, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">long-acting muscarinic antagonists (LAMA)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">long-acting beta-agonists (LABA)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that might offer a lower cost alternative depending on the generic availability and insurance coverage,\u201d Dr. McLaughlin said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For some people, using two inhalers might be cheaper, but it could be more expensive for others. Plus, it might make it harder to stick to a consistent treatment plan since <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bmjopenrespres.bmj.com\/content\/10\/1\/e001585\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">studies suggest<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that single-inhaler triple therapy encourages higher persistence than multiple inhalers. Either way, it might be worth asking your healthcare provider.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"is-there-a-cheaper-alternative-to-breztri\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is there a cheaper alternative to Breztri?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not every COPD medication works for every person. It combines fluticasone furoate, umeclidinium, and vilanterol to treat not just COPD but also asthma. However, its average price is $880 for a 30-day supply, so it might not come any cheaper than Breztri.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><b>\u00a0 <\/b><b>Can you take Breztri Aerosphere for asthma?<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>LABA\/LAMA inhalers: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some combination inhalers, specifically <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Duaklir Pressair<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anoro Ellipta<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, combine a LABA LAMA. These may come cheaper\u2014Anoro Ellipta costs $170 on average for a month\u2019s supply\u2014although certain people might need a second inhaler with an <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">inhaled corticosteroid (ICS)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, since there\u2019s not one included in the formula.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>LABA\/ICS inhalers: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Further, combination inhalers like <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Advair Diskus<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\/Advair HFA, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Breo Ellipta<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dulera<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> include a LABA and a corticosteroid. These are common alternatives and may cost a couple hundred dollars less. However,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/17314337\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">some clinical trials<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have shown that these don\u2019t significantly reduce the primary outcome of mortality in COPD patients when compared with a placebo. To have all three inhaled drug classes like Breztri, you would need to add a LAMA inhaler to the regimen with a LABA\/ICS inhaler.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Corticosteroid inhalers: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pulmicort Flexhaler<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fluticasone Propionate HFA<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and other purely corticosteroid inhalers might be cheaper than Breztri, but they might not be comprehensive enough to treat certain cases of COPD. A LABA\/LAMA combination inhaler would also have to be used with one of these ICS inhalers to get the three drug types that Breztri offers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Beta-2 agonists: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Similar to corticosteroids, drugs like <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">albuterol<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perforomist<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> might come at lower prices, but certain cases of COPD might require a more comprehensive medication. Albuterol is better suited as a short-acting, rescue medication for acute symptom relief rather than daily prevention. As a LABA, Perforomist would need an lCS inhaler and a LAMA inhaler to get all three medication categories like Breztri.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ultimately, it\u2019s up to the healthcare provider to give medical advice on the best medication for each patient. No matter which route they recommend, most COPD patients need a fast-acting rescue inhaler to use during an attack.
