The question is: Which methods actually work?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Right now, the only medically proven way to induce a period is to manipulate the way that you take your birth control pills. As for the other methods, there is very little (if any) evidence behind their effectiveness and safety. Among the study participants, 74% had purposefully manipulated their periods using birth control pills during the preceding year, and 29% had done this four or more times.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, how exactly can you use hormonal birth control to induce a period? \u201cMost birth control pills have a placebo week of different colored pills at the end of the pack,\u201d explains Dr. Culwell. \u201cIf you stop taking the active pills and switch them out for the placebo pills, this often triggers a<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acog.org\/clinical\/clinical-guidance\/clinical-consensus\/articles\/2022\/09\/general-approaches-to-medical-management-of-menstrual-suppression\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">withdrawal bleed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or menstrual period.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While this is usually safe, there are several precautions to keep in mind. \u201cYou can skip to the placebo week of pills to have your period earlier, but only after you have been on the pill for a few months. Don\u2019t do this in the first month of taking the pills. It is important to never go more than four to seven days without taking an active pill, or you increase the risk of pregnancy,\u201d Dr. Culwell advises.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you do this, keep in mind that you could increase your chances of pregnancy. Manipulating menstruation with birth control pills \u201csignificantly decreases the effectiveness of the birth control pill,\u201d Dr. Kramer emphasizes. \u201cUse of an alternate method of contraception is recommended.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most importantly, you should always connect with your healthcare provider or gynecologist before trying to induce your period via birth control pills. \u201cManipulating birth control should be done under the supervision of a doctor to guarantee safety and effectiveness,\u201d says <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bywinona.com\/authors\/dr-green\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Michael Green, MD, OB-GYN<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and co-founder at Winona. \u201cIt\u2019s generally safe to adjust birth control for menstrual control, but it\u2019s essential to discuss any changes with a healthcare provider.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"how-to-make-your-period-come-faster-naturally\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How to make your period come faster naturally<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All of the experts we connected with agreed that there are no natural remedies\u2014foods, supplements, herbs, lifestyle tweaks\u2014that will definitely induce your period. \u201cIt is rumored that consuming pineapple, ginger, turmeric, and foods rich in vitamin C can assist in bringing on a period,\u201d Dr. Kramer says. \u201cThere is no scientific evidence to support this, and it is very individually dependent.\u201d Dr. Kramer recommends contacting your physicians before trying any of these natural remedies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s take a look at what we know about various natural remedies for inducing a period and how to try them in a safe manner.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 id=\"vitamin-c\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vitamin C<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some people believe that taking vitamin C can affect reproductive hormones like estrogen and progesterone, which are\u00a0 the main hormones that control your menstrual cycle. The idea is that, by changing the levels of these reproductive hormones, you might be able to induce your period or get your period to come faster. Unfortunately, there is no scientific evidence for this. But this study was done on rats, not humans, and it doesn\u2019t apply to inducing menstrual periods.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consuming large amounts of papaya fruit shouldn\u2019t be an issue, though doing so may cause digestive upset and bloating. According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/medlineplus.gov\/druginfo\/natural\/488.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MedlinePlus<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, papaya leaf extract is likely safe when taken for up to five days, though adverse effects like nausea and vomiting may occur. It\u2019s possible that consuming unripe papaya fruit is not safe. This is because unripe papaya contains papain, an <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">enzyme<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that can harm your esophagus.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 id=\"turmeric\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Turmeric<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Turmeric<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is an herb frequently used in cooking and taken in pill form or as a tea. There is no evidence to prove this, though. While methods like exercise are \u201crelatively safe,\u201d Dr. Kramer says, they are of \u201cquestionable effectiveness.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In certain circumstances, exercising less may actually induce a period. According to Dr. Culwell, some people stop having periods or have infrequent periods due to overexerting or exercising too intensely.
