Army veteran’s wife enlists help of local police in surprise pregnancy announcement

A heartwarming video of an Army veteran finding out he’s going to be a dad is making the rounds on social media after his wife enlisted the help of their local police department. Jarred Wright, of Hurst, Texas, was traveling with his wife, Nikki, who captured the event on camera.

In the video, Wright, who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), general anxiety disorder and major depression disorder, is pulled over by an officer that he’s friendly with. He told Buzzfeed that Hurst Police Department Officer Todd Colichia responded to a call he placed to a crisis hotline last year, and later accompanied him to the hospital where they continued talking.

“That’s Colichia,” Nikki told her husband in the video.

Wright greets Colichia and told him he was recently released from the hospital before the officer tells him the reason for pulling him over.

“The reason why I stopped you is because you got a child in the car with no a child seat,” Colichia said.

As Wright relayed that there was no child in the car, Nikki held a positive pregnancy test up for him to see, which Colichia eventually pointed to.

“We do have a child in the car with no car seat,” Nikki told him before handing him the test.

“I think that means you’re a daddy buddy,” Colichia told him, before a second responding officer handed him a bag full other gifts.

Nikki then revealed that she is actually due on Wright’s birthday.

“How do you feel?” Nikki asked her husband.

“I feel happy,” a shocked Wright said.

He shared the video on his GoFundMe page, where he is raising money to help cover the cost of treatments while waiting for the Department of Veterans Affairs to increase his disability rating.

“I would like to focus my time on gaining control of my combat related PTSD, GAD, and MDD so that I can be better for our baby,” Wright posted.

As of Monday, his page had raised $1,030 of his $2,000 goal.
