The moment a colour blind father-to-be discovered the gender of his unborn child – spelled out in pink – has been captured in a heart-warming video.

The Portuguese man’s wife surprised him with a pair of special Enchroma glasses, which are lenses specially designed to enhance the colour perception of people unable to distinguish between different shades.

With the help of his new shades, the man, named as Pedro, is able to make out the words ‘It’s a girl’ printed within a pink circle on his wife’s t-shirt.

The emotional scene was captured on camera by family members, who can be heard laughing and cheering as Pedro, elated to learn he is having a daughter, sweeps his wife into a bear hug.

His wife Ana Paula had prepared a series of flash cards spelling out various messages, to present to Pedro along with his new glasses.

Sensing what is coming, the smiling father-to-be turns to the camera and says ‘I’m not going to start crying…’

He can then be seen flipping through the cards, the last of which reads: ‘Last one Daddy… what’s on mummy’s t-shirt?’

Pedro then turns to his wife, who proudly holds out her t-shirt with its message in pink.

He can be seen hugging and kissing his tearful wife, who, pleased her surprise worked, says: ‘At least he managed to read the t-shirt.’

Pedro said he was ‘thrilled’ to discover the news. ‘My wife prepared me a huge surprise, gifting me the Enchroma glasses and revealing that we were going to have a baby girl,’ he wrote online after the clip was filmed at the end of September.

‘She did everything [behind] my back, calling my brothers, sisters in law and my nephews to meet in my parents home,’he said.

‘I have to admit that I already had a strong feeling it would be a girl. And although I didn’t show it too much I was thrilled in the inside.’

At the end of the clip Pedro, still wearing his glasses and gazing around at the sunny garden, says: ‘The world is way cooler like this.’
