‘My 40M breasts nearly killed me’: Mother-of-five says her 3 STONE chest almost suffocated her while she was riding a rollercoaster

A mother-of-five claims her size 40M boobs are so big they almost suffocated her while she was riding a rollercoaster.

Rachel Brookes, 43, passed out while on a ride after her boobs were squashed so tightly by the safety harness, she was struggling to breathe.

Far from an asset, her all-natural 40M boobs – which weigh a staggering three stone – have caused her numerous health problems and have often been the source of embarrassment.

Mrs Brookes asked doctors about the possibility of breast reduction surgery but was turned down because of her weight. 

She said she is trapped in a viscous cycle as she struggles to exercise and dieting hasn’t worked.

‘I blacked out on a rollercoaster once because the harness could barely fit over my boobs, it had to be pushed down so tight that I was in and out of consciousness,’ she said.

‘I was gasping for breath, my own boobs were suffocating me and I sometimes think it would have been better to have fallen off, it was one of the worst experiences I have ever been through.’

The coach driver, from Wolverhampton, is even forced to buy bras from America and has to wear specially designed cushioned pads under her straps so they can cushion the weight.

She admitted she even had a ‘Mrs Doubtfire incident’ where she set fire to her T-shirt while leaning over the hob – and was forced to use the pan lids to put the flames out.

Now after 15 years suffering in silence she has decided to accept her appearance and share her story.  

‘For so many years I have hated the way I looked, my body is completely out of proportion and when I look at photos of myself it looks like I am going to topple over.

‘My bottom half is a size 16-18 but my top half can range anywhere from a size 24 to a 28, and even when I do find a top that has enough fabric to wrap around my chest the rest of the fabric just hangs below. 

‘I have had endless health problems, I am in constant pain with my back, my neck clicks all the time and I’ve got terrible posture, my shoulders even have a permanent groove in them from my bra straps.

‘But despite everything I have been through I am determined to not let my boobs ruin my life. 

She now has to import the size 40M bras from America, costing up to £120 a time, as shops in the UK don’t sell such large sizes

Mrs Brookes said her large chest caused her to have a ‘Mrs Doubtfire moment’ after her top caught fire while she was leaning over a hob – forcing her to put out the flames with pan lids

‘I have finally plucked up the courage to go swimming after seven years and I have even posed for photos – something I would never have dreamed of doing before and it has been so lovely to receive so many positive comments.’

Mrs Brookes was flat chested up until the age of 16 when her boobs ballooned to an E cup.

But after having five children, Emma, 25, Maddie, 20, Phoebe, 18, Edward, 15 and Alfie 5, her chest grew to a staggering size 40M.

‘When I was younger I did used to get comments but at the age of 16 it was flattering to hear. I was in proportion and I was happy with the way I looked.

‘As I got older, and with each child I had, my boobs grew and grew and after having my youngest, Alfie, they reached the biggest they had ever been.

‘I would always refuse to have my picture taken, we didn’t even have a professional photographer at our wedding, I just had friends take the pictures.’

Mrs Brookes said when she had a breast cancer scare a few years ago, the consultant weighed them and she was astonished to learn they were more than three stone. 

‘He said no woman should have to live with boobs that big and so he put me forward to the board to get a reduction, but sadly I was rejected as my BMI was too high,’ she explained.

While many women dream of having a larger bra-size, Mrs Brookes says it causes her nothing but struggles but says she has decided to embrace her appearance

‘They wanted me to lose seven stone, and I knew I was overweight, so I changed my diet in an attempt to get in shape.

‘I started swimming again, it took me seven years to pluck up the courage to go as I constantly felt self-conscious, but I was desperate and had no other choice.

‘Unfortunately I haven’t managed to lose an awful lot, I’m trapped in a vicious cycle, and as I’ve gotten older I have found it more difficult to exercise because of the health problems my boobs are causing.’

 Mrs Brookes said she refuses to let it get the better of her and is finally learning to embrace her appearance.

She said she has learned to deal with all the comments and is trying to look past it and get on with my life with the support of her husband Anthony, 58, and children.

‘I would be lying if I said he wasn’t a boob man, but he hates seeing the struggles I go through.

‘Thankfully he is very truthful and always tells me when I need to cover up.

‘It’s taken me years to have confidence in myself as I would usually wear baggy jumpers to hide my boobs.

‘Hopefully I can give other women the encouragement they need to not be ashamed of their breasts, no matter what size they are.’
