A woman who shed 150lbs in less than a year has revealed what she has learned about body positivity after running a 5K with her husband — completely naked.

Naomi Teeter weighed 300lbs when she started her weight loss journey in 2009. After rapidly losing half of her body weight, she was left with sagging skin that she has yet to remove surgically.

Seven years after her inspiring weight loss, the health coach and nutritionist from Spokane, Washington, has not only kept the pounds off, but she proudly completed the Bare Buns Fun Run at the nudist resort, Kaniksu Ranch.

During her weight loss journey, Naomi developed a passion for running races, and while she has proudly completed multiple marathons and half-marathons, she noted that this race was special for a different reason.

‘There’s always a tremendous sense of pride and accomplishment that accompanies the experience of crossing a finish line. But this is the very first time I also felt an outpour of love and acceptance as my husband and I ran side by side in the last sprint to the finish… totally naked,’ she wrote in an essay shared with Daily Mail Online. ‘

‘There were literally hundreds of naked strangers cheering, clapping, using noisemakers, and giving us high fives to welcome us to the ranks of “naked finisher” with them.’

Naomi explained that when she first vowed to lose 150lbs, she thought it would ‘magically change’ everything she despised about herself, and she purposefully picked adventurous activities such as running marathons and skydiving just to prove that she was strong and could do anything.

However, her new body didn’t look like she thought it would, and sometimes she longed for the 300lb body she used to have because it didn’t have any loose skin.

Naomi said that after her weight loss she has grown to accept herself, and her body, more and more, so participating in a naked run seemed like a ‘natural next step’ for her.

Great experience: Although Naomi has completed numerous marathons and half-marathons, she said this race felt different because of the support she felt

‘I spent too long proving I was perfect and strong. Now it was time to show I could be vulnerable and love myself for who I am (rather than who people think I am),’ she noted.

Naomi trained for the race by running naked on her treadmill, but she admitted that it wasn’t easy to strip down on race day.

‘I wasn’t fully prepared for the emotional discomfort I initially felt wash over me while I lined up at the start line with hundreds of other naked (or partially naked) runners,’ she wrote.

Naomi said before the race people were cracking jokes about the experience, and she met other naked people, revealing that some even invited her to their cabins to ‘take nude pre-race selfies to share later on Instagram’.

Despite her initial reservations, Naomi said she was able to eventually stop ‘seeing naked people’ and she ‘just saw people’.

‘There’s no denying the fact that you’ll notice how every person’s forbidden fruit is different from yours at first, but it stops being a big deal,’ she wrote.

‘You simply don’t see a difference between the woman who had the double mastectomy and the woman who has breast implants and a perfect tan (although, admittedly, the “perfect” looking people are few and far between).’
