Scientists to Study Possible Chronic Fatigue ‘Cure’

British scientists have launched a clinical trial of a new chronic fatigue syndrome therapy that has been found to cure two-thirds of children with the condition in early studies.

The trial, on 734 children, will use intensive online therapy sessions to modify sleeping habits and activity levels, BBC News reports.

It also uses a form of behavioral therapy to help children with the disease adapt the way they live.

Esther Crawley, a children’s doctor from the University of Bristol, is leading the study, supported by the British National Health Service, to see if online consultations work and are cost-effective.

Studies of the technique in the Netherlands showed 63 percent of the patients given therapy had no symptoms after six months.

The technique aims to change the way children think of the disease and reduce the time spent sleeping and sometimes cut activity levels.
