A young mother in Flintshire has been charged with poisoning and murdering her seven-week-old son last year.

Hannah Turtle, 22, of Shotton, has been charged with murder, two counts of poisoning and three counts of of ill treatment in the death of baby James Hughes on 13 June 2016.

Turtle allegedly administered antidepressant drugs to baby James between 31 May and 5 June 2016.

She appeared before magistrates in Wrexham, North Wales, on Thursday morning wearing glasses and a pink flowered T-shirt.

The charges follow a police investigation into the James’s death in Deeside last year, Wales Online reported.

James was taken from the family home in Shotton on 9 June 2016 and brought to the Countess of Chester hospital.

He was transferred to Liverpool’s Alder Hey Children’s Hospital where he died on 13 June 2016.

Turtle is due to appear in Mold Crown Court on Friday.
