The 7 Wildest ‘Game Of Thrones’ Theories On Reddit You Need To Know Before The Finale

Naturally, GoT fans don’t want to wait until Sunday to know what happens, so they’re coming up with a ton of theories on Reddit on who Jon Snow’s parents are, what that conversation between Arya and Sansa meant, and who the Night King might be.

Here are the best theories we came across and, while no one but the GoT cast and crew knows what really will go down on Sunday, these are pretty good guesses:

Jon Snow Is Actually A Legitimate Targaryen

[Main Spoilers] Gilly with the nuclear bomb drop from gameofthrones

Fan favorite Jon Snow has been known for years on the show as a “bastard”—the illegitimate son of Ned Stark (dad to Sansa, Arya, and Bran) and some random, unknown woman. However, in the season six finale, it was revealed that Jon Snow is likely the son of Ned’s deceased sister Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, who was Daenerys’ much older brother and the eldest child of the last Targaryen king, Aerys. This all but confirmed the popular “R+L=J” theory that has been floating around among big Game of Thrones fans for YEARS. This would actually make Daenerys Jon’s aunt. (If you’re confused about the complicate family ties, don’t stress—HBO released an infographic to help you track some of the key relationships.)

Jon’s true identity has been a secret this whole time and so far, Bran (who witnessed the past) is apparently the only living person who knows the real deal. However, it gets even juicier: Per redditor LocalSlob, Gilly and Sam Tarly unwittingly discovered in season seven that Rhaegar applied for an annulment from his marriage to another woman, potentially making his alliance with Lyanna legitimate—and making Jon, not Daenerys, the “true” heir to the Iron Throne. WHAT.

Gendry May Actually Be Super Important

[Everything] About Gendry’s real mother from gameofthrones

[EVERYTHING] Valyrian Steel theory. from gameofthrones

Many Redditors theorize that Gendry’s return means that he has some bigger significance to the series than just being King Robert Baratheon’s bastard son. Apprently, way back in season one, Cersei revealed that she had one lost “black-haired” son who died. But fans such as ronzia believe that this son didn’t actually die, but was sent away to make room for her kids with her brother Jamie. This would make him the last surviving (and truly legitimate) child of Cersei’s—and therefore yet another potential Iron Throne claimant.

However, his other skill (besides looking hot without a shirt on, obviously) is forging weapons. And many redditors such as Goose_TpGn think that Gendry will be the one who can bring back the lost art of forging Valyrian steel, which is the only thing besides dragonglass that can kill White Walkers.

Arya and Sansa Are Messing With Littlefinger

[EVERYTHING] Don’t forget Arya’s other training from gameofthrones

The devious Littlefinger’s efforts to keep the Stark sisters at war with each other seem to be working—there were some tense confrontations between Arya and Sansa in the penultimate episode of season 7 where Arya accused Sansa of being a collaborator with the hated Lannisters after finding a damaging letter placed by Littlefinger (and reveals that she’s an assassin that can change faces, NBD). However, Reddit doesn’t believe that the two sisters, who were both trained in the school of hard knocks during their time apart on the show, are actually feuding. Redditor deltery Sandor Clegane seems to believe that both sisters are putting on an act to trick Littlefinger, and ultimately seek their revenge on him for what he has done in the past to their family (from betraying Ned at King’s Landing in season one to marrying Sansa off to a murderous rapist in season five).

Cersei Is Getting The Ultimate Comeuppance

[Main Spoilers] Interesting thing about Jon and Cersei from gameofthrones

The evil queen we all love to hate may soon be getting what’s coming to her. As pointed out by redditor kingofbal and a few others, Jon Snow’s likely parentage actually has huge significance for Cersei, too. Not only could he be yet another challenger to her throne, he also is the physical embodiment of all of her disappointed dreams in life. Ah, the irony!

Two Major Rivals Will Finally Have Their Showdown

[MAIN SPOILERS] Cleganebowl Theory from gameofthrones

And no, we don’t mean Cersei and Danaerys. Or Cersei and Tyrion. We mean The Hound (Sandor Clegane) and The Mountain (his older brother, Gregor Clegane).

As revealed in older episodes of the show, the Hound HATES his older brother, sharing with Arya that his cruel older brother pushed his face into a fire when he was a boy—leading to a perpetual fear of flames as well as ugly scarring all over one side of his face. While once both employed by the Lannisters, the brothers haven’t seen each other in years, and now are fighting on opposite sides: Gregor is a creepy zombie-fied knight for Cersei, and Sandor is a somewhat reformed sinner fighting with Jon Snow and his camp against the White Walkers.

Big fans like KuyTech have predicted an epic showdown between the brothers (dubbed “Cleganebowl”) for years now. And that might come true in the finale. According to fans, Sandor most likely will accompany Jon Snow to King’s Landing to show Cersei proof of the White Walker’s power, and will somehow be compelled to fight his monstrous older brother—perhaps in defense of Jon Snow or some other reason. A scene from a season seven trailer released in June seems to show the Hound drawing his sword in a stadium, something that we have not yet seen in this season of the show. Get ready for a showdown, folks!

Bran Stark Is Actually The Night King

The identity of the Night king (based on TV series-facts) http://imgur.com/a/KUmTs from gottheories

In previous seasons, we’ve seen the youngest surviving Stark, Bran, learn how to not only possess other people (“warg” into their consciousness and take over their bodies) but also go back in time as an observer. Now, Reddit is convinced that Bran’s powers mean he is secretly the “Night King,” a.k.a. the King of the terrifyingly evil White Walkers.

How? Various theories (such as the one above) propose that in trying to stop the White Walkers from existing, Bran will go back in time and possess one of the First Men. However, they believe his plan will backfire and he will end up getting turned into the first White Walker—part of a scene that we saw already in season six. Then, summarizes Redditor hi_austin, “Bran will stay too long in the past and get stuck as a disembodied consciousness inside of that “first man”. Becoming……the night king.” Rather than preventing things from happening, he may ultimately end up fulfilling them.

Jon And Dany Are Destined To Hook Up

[EVERYTHING] Ygritte and Daenerys parallel from gameofthrones

Yes, even though they’re most likely related. (Hey, we’ve seen worse on the show). However, the show seems to be throwing these smoldering hotties together a LOT this season, and some Reddit fans such as tejeskv have seen parallels between Jon and Dany’s relationship and that of Jon and the wildling woman Ygritte in seasons two and three. Considering that the finale episode’s rating includes mention of nudity, we might get ourselves a sex scene sooner rather than later. Plus, the title of the original book series is literally called “A Song of Ice and Fire,” so…

Is it Sunday yet?
