This Couple Kept Their Pregnancy a Secret for 9 Months

From Redbook

I’ve seen some pretty out-there pregnancy announcement videos, but this one might take the cake.

Tannin and Katie Pease, a couple from Utah, didn’t plan an over-the-top reveal. Instead, they went viral and shocked their family by going in the complete opposite direction. They literally didn’t announce they were expecting until two days before the birth.

The Peases, who are already parents to two boys, explained to ABC News that they decided to delay announcing that they were expecting another child because of earlier fertility struggles. Initially, they were going to wait until they found out the baby’s gender, after passing the usual threshold into a lower miscarriage risk (the couple had two miscarriages after the birth of their second child). Instead, they made the decision to wait even longer – until the now mom-of-three was just about ready to pop.

“We had already been through two miscarriages where we told people we were pregnant, and then we had to tell them we weren’t anymore,” Katie told ABC News. “That was heartbreaking, and we didn’t want to have to go through that again, so it helped waiting so long.”

While close family and just a few local friends were aware of the pregnancy, several members of Tannin’s family had no idea. Tannin’s Facebook video of his mother Carolynn finding out about her eleventh (!!) grandchild went viral after being picked up by ABC.

In the video, the soon-to-be grandma of 11 is visibly surprised when she sees her very pregnant daughter-in-law – she turns around and hits her husband, who’d found out about the pregnancy earlier. When she finds out the baby is due in just a few days, the excited grandmother tosses aside the bag she’s holding in complete shock before laughing in disbelief. I mean, fair. She’s already had 10 grandchildren, so it is pretty surprising they could have pulled such a big one over on her.

Baby Saul was born on February 20th, just two days after his grandma found out he existed, joining big brothers Cooper, 4, and Gray, 2.

Of her reaction to the big news, Carolynn told ABC, “I was just completely floored. I feel really elated because they’ve [had] a hard time and I was really excited for them. I thought the whole thing was very thoughtful to surprise me.”
