We Can’t Wait to Use These New Emojis for Career Women

Let’s face it: Most of us communicate with at least one emoji every day. Heck, some of us have entire texting conversations without typing a single word. Those adorbs little icons share how we’re feeling (crying face), what we’re doing (brunch!), and where we’re going (hello, tropical paradise). But can they convey that, as women, we’re more than just dancing ladies or brides? Not so much.

Now, a team of four Google employees is seeking to change that. Yesterday, they visited a Unicode Consortium meeting (the organization that oversees the creation of emojis, among other things) to present a set of 13 new symbols that would represent women in the workplace. The characters, which would also be available as men, include farmers, chefs, teachers, scientists, doctors/nurses, and more. (Check ’em all out in their full proposal.)
