We Got Hypnotized to Help Our Sex Life—and It REALLY Worked

Lisa and her boyfriend of four years, Eric, decided to try hypnotherapy with Barker (sessions run $800 to $1,500) in an effort to break a six-month dry spell caused by their busy schedules. Their recap:
Eric: “We walked into the office and sat down on these massage therapy beds. We were lying next to each other—not touching—wearing headphones, listening to Richard’s voice telling us to open and close our eyes. The room was very relaxing, and there were no distractions. It felt like I was drifting, and then I was kind of gone. It was the strangest thing. I could remember some of what he said, but not everything, and I couldn’t verbalize it.”
Lisa: “It’s like a lucid dream. You know what’s going on, but at the same time you don’t. His voice became my subconscious. I thought it would take a long time for me to get into that state, but it happened almost instantly. When you wake up, it’s like you had the best nap of your life. You just feel happier and lighter when you walk out.”
Eric: “There was an immediate effect: When we got home, we were having sex all over the house. We even tried role-playing. We were so eager to please each other. And I feel like that can be sustained. We have a different state of awareness now.”

Lisa: “It’s been like those first six months of the relationship where you can’t keep your hands off each other. We’ve also talked about our dry spell more in depth so that it doesn’t happen again.”
So, is this for you? Berman agrees that many sexual problems are related to anxiety—and that in order to fix them, you have to identify and reverse the negative beliefs that you’ve internalized. But if you or your partner are skeptical that hypnosis can do this by tapping into your psyche, then this method isn’t for you.
